When supply chain disruptions occur, many logistics professionals scramble to adjust. Some turn to a multitude of technology providers to deliver services they think they need to adapt. However, many are learning what experienced Shippers and 3PLs already know – the best solution is planning ahead with a one-stop shop technology from a seasoned provider.

In episode 11 of Banyan Technology’s Tire Tracks™ podcast, 3PL Freight Partners Group Founder and CEO Tom Burke discusses where the future of logistics technology is headed and how one-stop-shop technology will make a big impact.

“I think that one of the biggest changes is one-stop shopping, where people can come in for all the modes to include small package parcel, pallet rates and local pickup and delivery,” he said. “Over the last few years, there’s been a lot of startup companies that have received millions of dollars to come in and try and duplicate what companies like Banyan or any of the other major software programs have accomplished. They put a new front end on them and think that they’ve got it made. Well, they soon found out that without strong bones that their software is only a shiny interface without a really good, strong back end.”

Successful technology providers have tried and true solutions that can help you get ahead of disruptions and changes in the supply chain.

“Covid really taught us a lot of lessons across everything. It taught us that when the transportation system is failing that getting ahead of it, and getting ahead with your customers through good communication is always key,” said Burke. “It really is proven that companies like Banyan that have been around forever, are going to stay around and continue to get stronger,” said Burke. “It's not a wheel you're going to reinvent overnight.”

Looking at logistics as a whole, relationships and partnerships are just as valuable as the technology itself.

“Doing your due diligence and understanding who the person or the company is that you're going to partner with is important,” Burke said. “Make sure that they have the technology to support you and have the back room, people-wise to support what they're doing.”
